Summer Staple: Culottes
Let's be honest here, culottes aren't the first item of clothing most people would gravitate towards as a staple item, simply because they're well known for looking a tad awkward on the legs with their wide silhouette and slightly weird length. A lot of people deem them unflattering, but style them right and you will honestly have no worries! Why are they a Summer style staple? Being a cool alternative, to your denim shorts or maxi dress, they're super chic, comfortable, light weight and airy–perfect for the sweltering heat.
Personally, I tend to style culottes with short tops such as fitted cropped jumpers or t-shirts to break up the outfit a little and add some emphasis to the waistline. If I'm dying to wear them with a regular shirt, leaving a few buttons undone to tie up both ends of the shirt ( as seen in today's look) is a styling option.

The following are a few quick tips to making the most out a pretty pair...
1. The right choice of footwear – It's always make-or-break when choosing the right shoes for an outfit, and it is pretty important when it comes down to styling culottes. For a hot Summer's day, loafers, lace-up sandals or if you're feeling a little fancy, opt for heels. If you're a sucker for classic flats, a suggestion would be to wear styles with a pointed toe to elongate your legs.
2. Keep proportions in mind – The key to owning a summery look in culottes is, of course, striking the right balance with proportions. As you're working with a voluminous bottom half, try pairing them with a top that has less volume, for example, a fitted t-shirt, or a shirt that you can tuck in or tied in at the waist. Accessorising with a belt can help too.
3. Go bold – Whether that be with one solid colour or a dazzling print. Make them the statement piece of your look, and keep everything else a little simple. Are you a fan of culottes? If so, how do you like to style them?
